LPAPA welcomes new board members
The Laguna Plein Air Painters Assn. has welcomed plein air colorist Camille Przewodek and art historian Jean Stern to their board of directors.
Przewodek, whose work invokes that of Claude Monet, has been a guest artist with the Plein Air Painters of America and is included in the book, “Enchanted Isle: A History of Plein Air Painting in Santa Catalina Island.” A signature member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters, Oil Painters of America, and the American Impressionist Society, she is also an artist member of the California Art Club.
Przewodek has written for American Artist, International Artist and The Artists magazines, and recently won The Bay Hundred Foundations Vanishing Landscape Award for the second year in a row at the Plein Air competition in Easton, Md.
Having earned one of the top awards in the landscape competitions sponsored by The Artists Magazine four times, she has also received first place awards at the Napa Valley Museum Plein Air Biennial 2003, the American Impressionist Fifth Annual Exhibition and the Sausalito Art Festival.
Przewodek spent her earlier years studying color with impressionist master, Henry Hensche, at the Cape School of Art in Provincetown, Mass., in addition to training at Wayne State University in Detroit and the Academy of Art College in San Francisco.
A recognized authority on California Impressionism, Stern has extensive experience in the field as an author, curator, lecturer and teacher. He has been the executive director of the Irvine Museum since its inception in 1993, and has established a national presence for the Irvine Museum in the fields of California Art and History through a noteworthy international series of books, exhibitions, lectures, articles and video documentaries.
He is the author of several books and articles on California Impressionism, including monographs on important artists such Franz A. Bischoff, Alson S. Clark, Sam Hyde Harris and Elsie Palmer Payne.
In 2001, he and Joan Irvine Smith researched and co-authored “California, This Golden Land of Promise,” the highly acclaimed history of California that was illustrated with hundreds of important historical paintings and published by Chapman University Press and the Irvine Museum.
He has contributed to several other books on California art as well, including The Plein Air Painters of California” series and “Guy Rose: American Impressionist.” His latest book, “Franz A. Bischoff: The Life and Art of an American Master,” was published earlier this year.

Five artists open studios
Five Laguna Beach artists will open their studios to the public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in an of offering holiday cheer, refreshments and an array of artwork at all prices.
Shop Siân Poeschl’s kiln formed glass; Troy Poeschl’s mixed media; painting, sculpture and jewelry by Marsh Scott; Maggie Spencer’s fused glass; and Julita Jones’ original prints and photography. Judi Spiegel will also offer special holiday confections.

Free computer technology workshop
The Festival of Arts will hold a free computer technology workshop from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday hosted by artist Fred Hope.
Designed for those who are new to Photoshop and other design-related programs, the hands-on seminar will demonstrate how to photograph artwork with a simple digital consumer camera, explain how to process the camera files and how to prepare those files to the FOA standards. The procedures will be shown in their logical sequence from start to finish, resulting in work that is ready for submission. Applicants will also learn how to put an image on a disk and size it properly.
Hope’s diverse background ranges from an illustrator, multimedia artist to a painter who blurs the boundaries between these three disciplines.

Nordic Nights and Holiday Bazaar
Macalistaire at 1850 and Vertigo Home, 1854 S. Coast Hwy., will host a joint Nordic Nights and Holiday Bazaar event from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday featuring local artists and designers.
Patrons can enjoy champagne and appetizers at Macalistaire’s while they shop the Jewelry Trunk Show and enter raffles to win prizes from participating vendors. Vertigo will serve Danish Hot Glogg and cookies, and will offer a complimentary gift wrapping on purchased items.

Holiday sing-along
No Square Theatre will hold a holiday sing-along and open mic event from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Legion Hall, 384 Legion Street, featuring No Square singers’ special guest Saif Eddin on the piano.
