FRIDAY: Head to the haunted Wild West at El Morro Elementary School’s Boo Blast Halloween Carnival from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. Free parking at Reef Point (at Trader Joe’s) or Crystal Cove State Park (at Newport Coast) with shuttle service to the carnival. Boo Blast admission is free. Tickets are $1; rides and attractions are one to four tickets each. Meal tickets are $8 and include barbecue, chips and a drink. Environment Conference

Michele McCormick will lead a workshop called, “Transition Town Laguna Beach: A Founding Member’s Story of Personal & Communal Transformation” from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at St. Mark Presbyterian Church, 2200 San Joaquin Hills Road, Newport Beach. McCormick shares her life-changing experience while living and working with indigenous tribes in Kenya, Canada, El Salvador and Taos, New Mexico. Come hear her story of returning to the U.S. in order to integrate and apply lessons learned. As a founding member of Transition Laguna Beach, McCormick will share how she is living a nature-based, sustainable, even “tribal” life in Orange County through this positive approach to meeting the challenges of climate change and peak oil in an uncertain future.
