Family-friendly activities at LAM

Imagination Celebration, a day filled with free art activities, will be held at the Laguna Art Museum from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 20.

The theme for this countywide event is “Full Steam Ahead” and is presented thanks to a partnership between Arts Orange County, the Orange County Department of Education and an array of arts organizations. “Steam” stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math.

The Laguna Art Museum will team up with professional artists from Laguna Outreach for Community Arts for the day’s arts projects. Other activities on tap include face-painting, balloons and story time, as well as a live music performance by the El Morro and Top of the World Elementary Schools’ Honors Chorus.

Admission is free and reservations are not needed.

The museum is also planning its first Elements of Art Summer Camp in July and August.

First- through eighth-grade students will spend 2 to 5 p.m. per day experimenting with line, shape, form, color, texture and more. They will also tour the museum’s exhibitions, from which they can draw artistic inspiration. Those who sign up for August’s session will have a fifth day to create a collage, incorporating all their lessons.

There are only 30 spots per camp, which costs $100 for July 7, 14, 21 and 28 and $125 for Aug. 5 till 9.

Assistance League recognized for work with playhouse

The Laguna Playhouse’s Director of Development Elizabeth Pearson and Donna Inglima, director of youth theater, addressed the Assistance League of Laguna Beach at a meeting Monday.

The duo thanked the league for supporting special performances at the playhouse, allowing many school children are exposed to live theater for the first time.

In 2011, the Assistance League chose the playhouse as one of its philanthropic programs and has since contributed resources in aid of children’s productions that focus on issues within the community and at home.

The funds partially help with production costs, while also sponsoring tickets for underprivileged children from Orange County’s adoption placement home Orangewood Children’s Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club of Laguna Beach.

Inglima also discussed the true story depicted in Celeste Raspanti’s “I Never Saw Another Butterfly.”

“Little Women” is currently on stage until April 14.
