CRYSTAL COVE STATE PARK

Crystal Cove State Park, 8471 N. Coast Hwy, has 3.5 miles of beach and 2,000 acres of undeveloped woodland. $15 day-use parking fee.

The park is open 6 a.m. to sunset daily. Due to the recent rainstorms, the backcountry is closed until further notice. The beaches and tidepools are open to the public. For more information, call (949) 497-7647 or e-mail [email protected].

Spring hike: Enjoy a guided springtime 3- to 5-mile backcountry hike at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 9, April 16 and April 23 at the El Moro Visitor Center. $15 day-use parking fee.

Tidepool walk: Join a Crystal Cove State Park volunteer on a guided tidepool walk to Rocky Bight at 3 p.m. Saturday when the tide will fall to 0.7. A volunteer will help identify animals and describe some awesome adaptations. Park at the Los Trancos lot & meet the docent in the Historic District on the beach in front of the Beaches cottage. $15 day-use parking fee

Volunteer training: Crystal Cove State Park is searching for new tidepool volunteers, with volunteer training at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Ocean Institute in Dana Point. Volunteers help the public identify organisms, remind them of the rules, and provide information about this fragile environment. For more information, e-mail [email protected].

LAGUNA COAST WILDERNESS PARK

Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, 20101 Laguna Canyon Road; reservations and information, (949) 923-2235; https://www.ocparks.com.

Rangers staff the park daily. Open 7 a.m. to sunset daily, including holidays. Parking lot hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Lake stroll: Enjoy the outdoors and learn about diverse plant life on a leisurely paced, level, 2-mile lake stroll from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Friday and April 15 with Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteer naturalists. Hike is for those 10 and older. Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, Little Sycamore Canyon Staging Area/Nix Nature Center. Make the reservations at (949) 923-2235. Parking is $3. Donation is $2 per person.

Fitness hike: Raise your heart rate on a 5-mile hike with a 1,185-foot elevation gain, over very steep, uneven terrain with foundation volunteers at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Not for beginners, appropriate hiking shoes and hiking poles strongly recommended. For those 15 and older. Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, Big Bend Staging Area. Make the reservations by calling (949) 923-2235. Parking is $3. Donation is $2 per person.

Mountain bike ride: A 10-mile bike ride over steep and uneven terrain with a 1,000-foot elevation gain starts at 8 a.m. Sunday. This is for intermediate riders with mountain biking experience. Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, Little Sycamore Canyon Staging Area/Nix Nature Center. Reservations are required so call (949) 923-2235.
