Flood relief concert is Sunday

Laguna Beach artists and musicians will band together to raise funds for the victims of the December floods through a charity concert and silent auction this Sunday at the Artists’ Theatre, 625 Park Ave.

“Here Comes the Sun,” to be held from 4 to 7 p.m., will feature local music legends including Beth and Steve Wood, Jason Feddy and Nick I, as well as an array of artwork donated by Laguna’s artists.

Presale tickets are $20; $50 for preferred seating. A VIP Flood Angel package is also being offered for $250, which includes a pre-concert reception with the artists and food by Mark’s Restaurant. Tickets can be purchased at The Mail Stop, 1278 Glenneyre St.

Schroeder joins Jazz Winter Series

Laguna Beach Live! will feature two performances by baritone saxophonist Adam Schroeder from 6 to 7:15 p.m. and 7:45 to 9 p.m. Wednesday as part of its Jazz Winter Series at Hotel Laguna.

The L.A.-based musician has played with Ray Charles, Bill Cosby and Clark Terry.

Cost is $10; food and beverages will be available for purchase. Reservations can be made at (949) 494-1151 and will be held until 15 minutes before the show begins.

Art Walk has 13th anniversary

Thursday is the 13th anniversary of the Art Walk, and to celebrate, galleries throughout Laguna are giving away gift packages to 13 patrons who complete an entry form from 6 to 9 p.m. at any of the 42 locations. The more galleries visited, the more chances to win. Participating galleries will be marked with balloons outside their doors.

In addition to viewing an array of new artwork and hearing performances by local musicians, patrons can also preview the exhibit of “Artful Violins,” a collection of embellished violins created by local artists to support the upcoming Laguna Beach Music Festival.

Screening of ‘Waste Land’

First Friday Flicks at the Forum Theatre will present a free a screening of “Waste Land” at 7 p.m. Feb. 4. It’s a documentary that follows artist Vik Muniz on a journey from his home in Brooklyn to the world’s largest garbage dump, Jardim Gramacho, on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro in his native land of Brazil, where he photographs pickers of recyclable materials called “catadores.”

Evolution of portraiture explored

The Festival of Arts will feature “Portraits,” an exhibit that illustrates the evolution of the traditional painted or sculpted portrait into photographic and mixed-media portraiture, through March 10 at Wells Fargo, 260 Ocean Ave. in Laguna Beach.

An artist reception will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The works of Bill Agee, Sandra Jones Campbell, Dirk Hagner, Stephanie Cunningham, Rick Graves, Betty Haight, Robert Hansen, Julita Jones, Elizabeth McGhee, Bradford J. Salamon, Gregg Stone, Bruce Vanderwilt and Barbara White display an array of personalities.

Sea lion tour and art class

Laguna Outreach for Community Arts will hold an Art and Sea Lions class from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturdays Feb. 5 through May 7 at the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Canyon, with a tour and an ocean-themed art class.

Art classes will feature a new instructor and theme each month. During February, Festival of Arts and Sawdust exhibitor Jude Taylor-Darlin will lead a pop-up greeting card class, where participants will draw and assemble their own sea-lion themed, pop-up greeting card.

The cost is $20 for adults; and $15 for children ages 6 and older, accompanied by an adult. Fees include all art supplies and on-site parking. Advance registration is required at [email protected] or call (949) 363-4700.

Landscapes show at City Hall

The Festival of Arts and city of Laguna Beach will present “Viewing the Landscape,” an exhibit that explores the theme of the landscape, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday until Feb. 28 at City Hall, 505 Forest Ave.

Painted by FOA artists, the display depicts the landscape in an array of artistic styles.
