Current events discussion begins
Every Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m. beginning Wednesday, the Susi Q Community Center will be sponsoring a viewing of newsmaker interviews from TV and online sources to help participants catch up with world events and attitudes.
Everyone interested is invited to view the interviews and then listen to and/or participate in a facilitator-led discussion. The center is located at 380 Third St. For more information, call (949) 497-2441.
Leaving a Legacy
Berteil Mahoney will present “Leaving a Legacy,” a free informational session on how you can share your stories and your values with those you love. The seminar will be 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wed., at the Susi Q Center. For more information, call (949) 497-2441.
AARP driver safety course
A two-day AARIP driver refresher course will be held from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 27 and Jan. 28 at the Susi Q Senior Center. The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members.
The course will teach safe driving strategies and defensive driving techniques. Course participants may be eligible to receive a discount on their auto insurance premiums. Participants must attend both days. To register, call (949) 497-2441.
Keep New Year’s resolutions
Psychologist and UCLA Adjunct Professor Marion K. Jacobs explains how successful change really works and how to keep Newe Year’s resolutions from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10 at the Susi Q Senior Center, 380 Third St. For more information, call (949) 497-2441.
Free genealogy lecture series
Collyn Youngman will again offer a free, eight-week genealogy lecture series at the Susi Q. The series will provide all of the necessary information and instruction to assist with charting a family history. Registration should be made by calling (949) 497-2441. A one-time $5 material fee is due on the first day. The series will take place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. today, and continues Jan. 14, 21; Feb. 4, 11, 18, 25; and March 4.
Family caregivers workshop
Janis Adams, RN, BSN, will be holding a three-session workshop on the fundamentals of caregiving for family caregivers. Topics include: what and how to communicate effectively with primary healthcare providers, safe medication reconciliation and management at home, and understanding key interventions necessary to prevent deterioration of a caregiver’s emotional and physical health among other topics. This series begins from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, and continues Jan. 19 and 26. The cost is $30. Call (949) 497-2441 to register.
Healthy Budget Eating Workshop
Gabrielle Sunheart will teach step by step how anyone can eat healthfully on $25 a week, including where to shop, what to buy, shopping lists, menu planning, bargain shopping, farmers markets, easy recipes, teaching children to love vegetables, how to grow your own mini chef’s garden, culinary herbs, reducing food waste—while saving thousands of dollars a year.
