Burger to USC
Newport Harbor High senior goalie Krissy Burger has signed a letter of intent with the USC women’s water polo program.
Burger helped the Sailors (25-6) reach the CIF Southern Section Division I championship game after they won the Sunset League crown. She finished with 204 saves and 14 steals.
Burger, who earned first-team All-Sunset League honors, will join Newport Harbor teammates Kaleigh Gilchrist and Colleen McCall at USC next season.

Curtis to Chaminade
Orange Coast College sophomore men’s basketball standout Chris Curtis will play next season at Chaminade University in Hawaii, the school announced Tuesday.
Curtis, a 6-foot-3 guard, averaged 18.6 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game last season, when he earned first-team All-Orange Empire Conference recognition.
Curtis averaged 11.4 points and 4.1 rebounds as a freshman.
He scored in double figures 14 times as a sophomore, including a 30-point, 15-rebounds, five-assist game against Cypress.

Matsuoka named All-American
Corona del Mar high senior Melissa Matsuoka was selected All-American for girls’ tennis by the National High School Tennis All-American Foundation.
Matsuoka was one of 40 girls nationally selected for the honor. She will be recognized at the Southern California All-American Awards Banquet, held at 6 p.m. Monday at the Newport Beach Yacht Club.
Matsuoka, a four-year varsity starter headed for Dartmouth, helped CdM win the CIF Division I title as a freshman in 2006. This past fall, she helped CdM win its 11th straight Pacific Coast League title and advance to the Division I semifinals. Matsuoka also advanced to the CIF Individuals doubles final with teammate Hailey Hogan. Coach Brian Ricker said the Sea Kings were 86-6 in her four years on the team.
Former CdM Coach Tim Mang is the executive director of the National High School Tennis All-American Foundation.
