Spectrum extends free internet for 60 days to teachers in response to school closures
As teachers throughout the Burbank and Glendale unified school districts begin a transition to online learning this week, Charter Communications is extending its 60-day free internet offer to kindergarten through 12th-grade teachers and college instructors.
The offer is available to teachers throughout the United States who currently do not have Spectrum service. A self-installation kit is also available for free.
Charter Communications, which operates under the Spectrum brand, previously announced its commitment to provide 60 days of free internet to K-12 and college student households, who would be new customers.
The Burbank and Glendale unified districts, as well as Glendale Community College and Woodbury University, listed the company as a recommended resource.
The company plans to continue the existing Spectrum Internet Assist program to provide service to low-income homes with school-age children. It opened its Wi-Fi hotspots for all users.
It also agreed not to disconnect customers’ internet services and waive late fees for residential subscribers and small businesses who can’t pay their bills due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In an announcement sent out on Monday afternoon, Charter Communications stated, “As the country works collaboratively to contain this pandemic, broadband internet access will be increasingly essential to ensure that people across the country are able to learn and work remotely, that businesses can continue to serve customers, and Americans stay connected and engaged with family and friends.”
